SAN MARCOS, Texas - The Reigning Southland Conference Volleyball Champion Texas State announces its 2009 schedule. The Bobcats will play in four tournaments including, their annual home tournament the Century Tel Premier. 13 home matches highlight the slate, including matches versus Texas Tech, Texas A&M and Houston.

"Our schedule has given us an opportunity to prepare ourselves for conference play," said head coach Karen Chisum. "We have a good variety of various conferences on our schedule including the Big 12, Conference USA and the Big East. They all offer us different levels of competition."

Texas State opens up the season on the road at the Missouri Classic on August 28-29. They will play Ole Miss and Missouri on day one and return to play BYU on the last day of the classic.

The Bobcats will open up home play on Wednesday, September 2, when they host Texas Tech.

Hitting the road for their second tournament of the season the Bobcats will travel to Wisconsin to play in the University of Marquette Classic being held Sept. 4-5. The Bobcats will face Butler, Austin Peay and Marquette at the tournament.

After traveling up I-35 to face the Baylor Bears on Sept. 8, the Bobcats will return home for the annual tourney the CenturyTel Premier. The tournament will take place Sept. 11-12.

"Our tournament is going to be fun with Texas A&M, Texas Southern and Hofstra all being there," said Chisum. "It will be the first time in a while that we will have three Texas schools participating. TSU and Hofstra bring good competition and it's always great excitement when we play the Aggies."

The University of Houston will come to Strahan Coliseum on Sept. 15. After that the Bobcats will head to Dallas to play in the SMU Tournament. Texas State will play SMU, William Mary and Syracuse in the tourney.

"The goal of our non-conference schedule is to get us ready for conference play and to present ourselves with an opportunity to get an upset over a team with a higher RPI," said Chisum.
