San Marcos, Texas- - Texas State athletic director Larry Teis announced that head volleyball coach Karen Chisum has signed a three-year contract extension recently. "Karen has proven that she is committed to winning both on and off the floor," said Teis. "In today's environment, the NCAA has made academic achievement a top priority, and she has bought into this philosophy. She is a great ambassador for Texas State." During her tenure at Texas State, Chisum has coached 57 players who were named to the Academic All-Southland Conference team, two Southland Conference Volleyball Players of the Year and one CoSIDA Academic All-District winner. This past season, the Bobcats finished with a 22-12 record and made their seventh postseason tournament appearance under Chisum's direction when they won the SLC Tournament with a 3-1 victory over Stephen F. Austin in the championship game. It marked the sixth SLC Tournament title under Chisum. She will enter her 31st season as the head coach at Texas State needing just three more wins to reach the 700-win plateau. She has a career record of 697-447-3.
