City Of San Marcos Honors Football, Soccer And Volleyball Teams
Jan. 22, 2009 San Marcos, Texas- - San Marcos Mayor Susan Narvaiz honored the Texas State football, soccer and volleyball teams during a special presentation at halftime of the Texas State men's basketball game against Sam Houston State. Mayor Narvaiz proclaimed January 21, 2009 as Texas State Football Team Day, Texas State Soccer Team Day and Texas State Volleyball Team day in recognition of each team's achievements last fall. The football team ended the season ranked 22nd nationally in the final poll by The Sports Network and 23rd in the FCS Coaches final poll with an 8-5 record after winning the Southland Conference championship with a 5-2 league mark. The Bobcats also advanced to the NCAA FCS Playoffs for the second time in the last four years . The soccer team finished the 2008 campaign with a 13-4-4 record after winning the Southland Conference regular season and tournament championships. The Bobcats finished the regular season with a 7-0-2 SLC record, marking the first undefeated conference record in school history and earned a berth into the NCAA Tournament. The volleyball team finished their season with a 23-14 overall record and won the Southland Conference regular season championship with a 16-2 record, The Bobcats also had an 8-0 record during Southland Conference matches in Strahan Coliseum.
