Bobcats Down ULM In Three Games
Nov. 13, 2004 San Marcos, Texas - The Texas State volleyball team captured its second straight Southland Conference title on Saturday after defeating the Indians of Louisiana-Monroe in three games (30-16, 30-21, 30-17) on the road. The `Cats finish the regular season at 25-5 with a 17-3 league record while ULM drops to 6-25 overall and 0-20 in the SLC. Texas State will share the crown this season with Stephen F. Austin, who won Friday night at Lamar 3-0 to end the season also 25-5 and 17-3. The `Cats won the match handily as the team hit .400 for the match to go along with 52 kills compared to 30 kills and .079 hitting for ULM. Senior setter Krystal Kolkhorst had 40 set assists moving her into third on the all-time career assist list at Texas State with 4,301 while senior outside hitter Stephanie Torregrosa led all players in the match with 12 kills (.375 hitting) and 10 digs. Also reaching double figures in kills for the `Cats was junior outside hitter Lizzy Nwoke with 10 kills on .450 hitting while senior libero Kristy Jones led the way defensively with 14 digs giving her the third highest single season total in Texas State history with 450. For the Indians, Megan Gloor finished 7 kills and Eveta Gambrah finished with six kills on .286 hitting. Texas State now advances to the Southland Conference Tournament held in Beaumont from Nov. 19-21. The `Cats enter the tournament with a first round bye as the second seed, and will await the winner of the first round match between No. 3 Texas-Arlington and No. 6 Sam Houston State. The Ladyjacks control the top seed and will play either No. 4 Texas-San Antonio or No. 5 McNeese State in the second round.
