DENTON - Shelbi Irvin and Brittany Collins each reached the 20 assist mark, and five Bobcats recorded at least seven kills as Texas State swept UMKC 3-0 (30-22, 30-25, 30-28) during final day action at the Mean Green Volleyball Classic.

Lawrencia Brown led the way with 13 kills while Emily Jones continued her stellar weekend with 11 kills and a .300 hitting percentage for the third straight match.

The match started close as both teams traded points until the game was tied at 16-16, but the Bobcats (2-2) then gained separation with a 14-6 run to take the opening frame 30-22. Texas State hit a blistering .405 in the opening game, with 21 kills and only four errors in 42 attacks.

Game two swung to the `Cats early on, with Brown recording three early kills to give Texas State a 16-9 lead. UMKC (3-5) made a quick run to trim the lead to 18-15, but kills by Melinda Cave and Jessica Weynand paired with four Kangaroo errors grew Texas State's advantage to 26-18. The Bobcats then weathered a 7-2 run by the `Roos to head into half time up 2-0 after a 30-25 win.

Showing no signs of slowing down in game three, Texas State scored the game's first five points and again staked a 16-9 lead. UMKC would come back to within 27-26 thanks to a Caitlin Koenig ace sandwiched between a pair of Bobcat errors. A pair of Kangaroo kills then tied the game at 28-28, but UMKC's attempt to stay alive came up short as Brandy St. Francis and Brown recorded consecutive kills to seal the 30-28 win for the `Cats.

The trio of Weynand, Amy Weigle and AJ Watlington each had seven kills for Texas State for the match while Kacey Wimpy finished with 13 digs. Irvin netted 23 assists while Collins added 20, marking the first time a pair of Bobcats finished with at least 20 assists in the same match since Erin Hickman and Collins did it against UTEP last season.

Kelly Gettinger was the lone Kangaroo to reach double figures in kills with 10, while Koenig had 27 assists and Mandy Tipton had a match-high 15 digs.

Texas State now heads back to Strahan Coliseum for its 2007 home opener on Tuesday, Sept. 4, against Texas A&M.
