Texas State Women's Tennis Team Plays Host To UTSA Friday At Noon

San Marcos, Texas- - It will be a battle between two of the top teams in the Southland Conference when the Texas State women's tennis team plays host to their I-35 rival UTSA at the Bobcat Tennis Center at noon on Friday, April 10. The Bobcats enter the match one game back of the Roadrunners in the SLC standings with a 6-3 league record and a 9-5 overall record. The Bobcats return home after playing five straight matches on the road and having won four straight matches. Texas State began their winning streak with a pair of 4-3 victories at Stephen F. Austin on Mar. 28 and at Sam Houston State on Mar. 29. Last weekend, Texas State defeated Nicholls 5-2 on April 4 before closing out the road trip with a 6-1 victory at Southeastern Louisiana. Individually, senior Ashley Ellis and junior Kiki Kruse lead Texas State with 10 victories as Ellis enters Friday's match with a 10-4 overall record and a 6-3 SLC mark. Kruse has Texas State's best SLC record with an 8-1 mark and is 10-3 overall. UTSA enters Friday's match after splitting last weekend's two matches in San Antonio when Sam Houston State edged UTSA 4-3 on April 4 before the Roadrunners won 7-0 last Sunday. Nathalie Wallin leads the Roadrunners with 16 victories and has a 16-3 overall record. She is 7-2 in SLC matches. Holly Phillips has a 15-2 overall record and is undefeated in SLC play with a 9-0 record. Caroline Dedering has an 8-1 mark in league action and is 14-4 overall. The Roadrunners enter Friday's match in third place with a 7-2 Southland Conference record, while Lamar is in second place with a 7-1 mark and UT Arlington is in first place after posting a 9-0 SLC record this season. Texas State is in fourth place with a 6-3 record and closes out its regular season schedule with a home match against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at the Bobcat Tennis Center.
