LUBBOCK - Texas State freshman Lainy Chafitz defeated Bobcat teammate Leja Sirola 7-6, 7-5 Saturday to advance to the championship of the Flight B Singles finals of the Red Raider Shootout to be held Sunday at Texas Tech.

Chafitz advances to take on Texas Tech's Katja Kovacic, a 6-2, 6-2 winner over UTEP's Danielle King. King will take on Sirola in the third-place match Sunday.

The Bobcats had four players advance through Friday's preliminary rounds to semifinals. Texas State freshman Ashley Ellis suffered a 7-5, 3-6 (10-5) loss to Texas Tech's Tara Browning and will play for third on Sunday. Sumarie Muller suffered a 2-6, 7-5 (10-6) loss to North Texas' Sammie Moreton in a Flight C semifinal and will also play for third in her flight Sunday.

In doubles play, Christina Amo and Chafitz had advanced to the quarterfinals of the Flight Red Doubles but lost a 8-3 decision to a Texas Tech team.

The tournament concludes Sunday at Texas Tech.
