SAN MARCOS - Texas State dropped a well fought non-conference match to Columbia University, 4-3 at the Texas State Tennis Complex on Tuesday.

Texas State was impressive early, sweeping the doubles point to take the 1-0 lead. The Lions however would rally to take four of the six singles matches en route to the 4-3 victory.

The No. 1 doubles team of Ashley Ellis and Lainy Chafitz won their match 8-6, Leja Sirola and Jana Cucciniello teamed for an 8-6 victory at No. 2 doubles and Natalie McLeod and Christina Amo finished off the sweep with an 8-4 win at the No. 3 spot.

The Bobcats two singles points came at the No. 1 singles spot where Ellis knocked off Milena Kachar in a three-set thriller, 7-5, 2-6, 7-6 and the No. 5 spot when Sumarie Muller topped Molly Condit, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

Columbia University (6-3) used wins at the No. 2, 3, 4 and 6 spots to even its spring break road trip record to 1-1. The Lions five-day trip in Texas includes match-ups with Houston, Texas State, Rice, Sam Houston and Texas-Arlington.

Texas State (3-10, 1-2 SLC) will resume conference play this weekend, when they head to Louisiana for a two-day road swing to face off with Louisiana-Lafayette and McNeese State.
