Bobcats Handle St. Edward's, 6-1
Feb. 23, 2006 SAN MARCOS - The Texas State women's tennis team won its second match in a row, dropping St. Edward's 6-1 on Thursday at the Texas State University Tennis Complex. The Bobcats (2-5) proved to be no match for St. Edward's, winning eight of the nine total matches. Texas State swept the doubles point, with three-straight victories, giving them the early 1-0 lead in the match. Ashley Ellis and Lainy Chafitz teamed to defeat Allison Paris and Regina Del Bosque 8-6 at No. 1 doubles, Leja Sirola and Jana Cucciniello teamed for an 8-3 win over Andrea Adamson and Janelle Otero at No. 2 doubles and the team of Sumarie Muller and Christina Amo defeated Piasha VanTho and Mandy Salazar at No. 3 doubles. In singles play, Christina Amo got the Bobcats going with a straight-set victory over Otero, 6-1, 6-0, extending the lead to 2-0. Texas State also got singles wins from Ellis at No. 1, Sirola at No. 3, Muller at No. 5 and Cucciniello at No. 6 singles. Texas State will take a week off, as they prepare to face off against No. 55 Rice and No. 72 Houston on March 3 and 4 in Houston, Texas.
