SAN MARCOS - Ragan Blake struck out a season high 13 batters, but four homeruns in game one and 15 hits in game two by McNeese State led to a doubleheader sweep by the visiting Cowgirls as Texas State fell 5-4 and 8-1 on Saturday.

The losses dropped the Bobcats (25-24, 14-12 SLC) behind McNeese State (28-28, 14-9) in the SLC standings to fifth place.

Leah Boatright's squeeze bunt for a single plated Kristina Tello in the first inning of game one as the `Cats took an early 1-0 lead but left the bases loaded before they could add to the total.

Another run would come in the next inning though, as Ryan Kos doubled and then scored when Tello doubled on a looper that deflected off the glove of Brooke Brodhead for a hit.

Brodhead more than made up for the play, connecting on a solo homer in the third to make it 2-1 Bobcats before blasting another home run in her next at bat in the fifth. Brodhead's second homer keyed a three run fifth inning as Liz Morvant went back-to-back with a home run and Rachel Phillips hit an RBI single to left field that made it 4-2 McNeese State.

Texas State answered with a pair of runs to tie it in the bottom of the inning thanks to an error and an Ashton Peters RBI single.

With the game tied after six innings, Blake gave up a solo homer to Megan Beard that made it 5-4, and Texas State couldn't come up with the tying run despite an Alex Newton one-out double in the final frame.

Blake fell to 20-13 with the loss, allowing five runs on nine hits and five walks to go along with her season high 13 strikeouts, while McNeese State's Jana Jones improved to 12-7 despite allowing four runs on nine hits with six walks.

Game two was all Cowgirls, as they chased Texas State's Megan Mikeska with only one out in the first inning and built a 3-0 lead in the opening frame. Elizabeth Dennis came on in relief, but a Tamara Keller error in the second with two outs led to three more runs and put the Bobcats in a deep 6-0 hole after two innings.

Karen Taylor broke the scoreless drought with a solo home run in the fifth that made it 6-1, but the Cowgirls responded with two more runs in the sixth and cruised to an 8-1 win.

Mikeska took the tough loss to fall to 0-3, officially going 0.1 innings and allowing three runs on two hits and a walk. She did record two strikeouts, but the second one came on a wild pitch that gave McNeese an extra out to work with. Rachel Hodlik earned her 10th win, allowing a run on five hits while striking out five.

The Bobcats conclude their regular season home schedule on Sunday with a 12 p.m. first pitch in the series finale against McNeese State. Seniors Heather Ackley, Chelsea Giroux, Haley Koop, Amy Krueger and Sarah Lancour will be honored after the game as part of Senior Day.
