NATCHITOCHES, LA. - Ragan Blake allowed one run in 14 innings, and Ryan Kos came up big at the plate and on the basepaths as Texas State swept a doubleheader at Northwestern State by scores of 4-0 and 3-1 on Friday.

The wins moved the Bobcats (20-18, 10-7) ahead of the Lady Demons (20-22, 11-9) in the Southland Conference standings and into the top six for the first time this season. The SLC's top six regular season finishers qualify for the SLC Tournament May 10-12.

Blake shut down the NSU bats in game one, allowing her only hit of the game in the seventh inning while finishing with three walks and 10 strikeouts to record her fifth shutout of the season.

Texas State got on the scoreboard in the third on a double steal with Kos and Haley Koop. Koop came home from third on the play, and Kos safely reached second to complete the double steal.

With the score 1-0, Kos used her bat to provide insurance in the seventh, drilling a double to center to score Jetta Weinheimer and Ashton Peters, who had advanced into scoring position after a Lady Demon error and a stolen base. Kos then came home on an Amy Krueger single for the final run.

NSU's Amanda Glenn took the loss despite allowing only one earned run on four hits and three walks while striking out 10. Glenn fell to 12-10 on the year while Blake improved to 14-9 with Texas State's win.

The `Cats opened up game two with a pair of quick runs, scoring in each of the first two innings. Weinheimer delivered an RBI single to left field in the first while Kos again came through for the Bobcats by stealing both third and home in inning two.

Texas State added another run in the sixth on a suicide squeeze by Tamara Keller that scored Alex Newton, who had stolen a pair of bases herself to reach third.

In the circle, Blake kept up her torrid pace from game one in the night cap of the doubleheader. She did not allow a hit until the sixth inning, when the Lady Demons scored their only run of the day with a bases loaded single, but Blake worked out the jam and held on for another win.

She finished game two with a run on four hits, walking three and striking out five to improve to 15-9. Michelle Castellano took the game two loss for NSU, allowing three runs on five hits with three walks and five strikeouts in seven innings.

The two teams will conclude their series on Saturday with an 11 a.m. first pitch.
