SAN MARCOS - Texas A&M's Mandy Gegen hit a three-run home run and had four RBIs as the No. 4 Aggies defeated Texas State 5-0 on Wednesday night at Bobcat Field.

Each of the first three hitters of the Bobcat lineup recorded a hit, but the rest of the offense struggled as the Bobcats fell to 15-17 on the year while A&M improved to 26-3.

The Aggies got on the board first in the second inning when Gegen connected on her first home run of the year against Texas State starter Sarah Lancour to make it 3-0.

The `Cats had a chance to answer in the third with a two-out rally. Krueger walked and advanced to second on a Tello infield single, and Karen Taylor loaded the bases with a sharp single to left field. No runs would score as Aggie starter Megan Gibson got Ali McCormack to pop up to shortstop on the first pitch, ending the threat.

Texas A&M would add insurance to their lead in the fifth and sixth innings with a run in each frame. In the fifth, Gegen added to her RBI total with a double to left that scored Amanda Scarborough. An inning later, Scarborough got an RBI with a bases-loaded walk.

Gibson shut the door on any come back from the circle, retiring 12 of the final 13 batters she faced to finish with a shutout. Gibson allowed three hits and two walks along with six strikeouts and improved to 10-1 with the win.

Lancour pitched 3.2 innings but took the loss to fall to 4-8. She allowed three runs on five hits, walking two and striking out one. Ragan Blake came on in relief and finished the game, allowing the final two runs on six hits and three walks. Blake also struck out four batters to add to her SLC-leading total of 113.

Texas State will now take a break in its schedule with an open weekend before resuming SLC play on Mar. 30 against I-35 rival UTSA.
