Frisco, Texas - Sophomores Britney Curry and Jessica Lewis continue to bring in accolades for the successful 2008 Bobcat soccer season as they were both selected to the All-Academic Southland Conference Soccer teams Tuesday afternoon released league officials. The academic honor is the first for both student-athletes. Curry, who maintained a 3.42 grade point average in Accounting this season, became the offensive catalyst for the Texas State entity that led the league in 11 categories. Curry recorded 21 points against league opponents and concluded the 2008 year with 27 points that included a career-high 12 goals and three assists. The Cypress native was named SLC Player of the Week on Nov. 6 after tying a Texas State single-game record for most goals scored in a game with four against the Lamar Cardinals. Curry was also named to the All-SLC first team earlier this fall. Curry was named to the Dean's list in the fall of 2007 and to the SLC Commissioner's Honor Roll and was a recipient of the Oak Farms Dairy Award. Classmate Jessica Lewis was also named to the All-Academic first team, as well. Lewis holds a 3.04 grade point average in Mass Communications. The Arlington native became a two-time SLC Player of the Week after becoming a key cog in the league's top defensive unit that shutout 12 opponents all season. With Lewis on the back line, Texas State allowed just four goals against league contenders. Lewis saw action in 20 games this season and made 16 starts. The sophomore is pursuing a minor in Fashion Merchandising. McNeese State's Kamryn Koch was named the 2008 Capital One/SLC Student-Athlete of the Year for the second-straight year. Koch, a COSIDA/ESPN The Magazine District VI recipient, is a three-time All-Academic selection, with a 3.4 GPA. A native of Breaux Ridge, La., she led McNeese State and the Southland in almost every statistical category. She ranked second in the NCAA in points per game (2.5) and goals per game (1.05). She led the conference in shots (116), points (50) and game winning goals (six). Koch set the league career record for shots (298) and game-winning goals (19). Her 116 shots are the most ever taken in league history, and she tied the single-season record for goals with 21. Kayce Schultz (Northwestern State), Amanda Lackey, Amanda Alders and Jessica Cotton (Stephen F. Austin), Mayra Torres and Justeen Lords (McNeese State) and Jenny Pence join Curry, Lewis and Koch on the All-Academic First Team. The All-Academic teams are voted on by the head coaches, sports information directors and academic/compliance administrators from each Southland university. Student-athletes must possess a 3.0 cumulative GPA, have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution and participated in at least 50 percent of the team's competition to qualify for the all-academic squad. Included in Capital One's support of the Southland Conference's Academic Awards Program is the F.L.
