Soccer Looks for Repeat Success at SLC Tournament
Nov. 5, 2009 SAN MARCOS - The Texas State women's soccer team will look to make Southland Conference history this weekend when they travel to Natchitoches, La. and defend their title as SLC Tournament Champions. The Bobcats claimed the 2009 regular season title with a 12-5-1 overall record and an undefeated 8-0-1 mark in the league, and with a consecutive Tournament Championship, Texas State would become the only school to win back-to-back SLC tournament titles. Texas State returns to the field as the No. 1 seed and will receive a first round bye. The team will play in Friday night's semi-final game at 7 p.m. and face the winner of a Thursday match-up between Sam Houston State and UTSA. The winner of the Friday's game will advance to Sunday's championship contest, and the SLC Champion will earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Championships. All games will be streamed free online through SLC NOW on the Southland Conference web-site, wwww.southland.org. Sunday's championship game at 1 p.m. will be televised by the Conference Television Network. Doug Anderson will call play-by-play and Chelsea Orton will serve as the color analyst. Robert Weeks will provide the online commentary for the first four matches of the tournament. The Bobcats are making their 10th appearance in the SLC tournament, and have claimed four titles (1999, 2001, 2004, 2008). The team is led by Coach of the Year Kat Conner who is in her 11th season with the team. Junior Britney Curry was named SLC Player of the Year and five other Bobcats were named to the league's postseason teams. Texas State is 14-5 all-time in the Southland Conference tournament.
