Frisco, Texas - Texas State sophomore Trine Mortensen has been named to the Capital One Bank Southland Conference All-Academic Golf Team released league officials this week. Mortensen is the lone sophomore in the league to be given the honor.

"I am very proud of Trine's selection to the All-Academic Southland team," said head coach Mike Akers. "She is extremely intelligent and works hard in the classroom and on the golf course. She is very deserving of this honor.

Mortensen, a native of Silkeborg, Denmark earned the honor by maintaining a 3.84 grade point average, the highest of all the SLC All-Academic team members. A three-time selection to the Texas State Dean's list, Mortensen is majoring in accounting and is a student of the McCoy College of Business.

On the links, Mortensen competed in all nine tournaments for the Bobcats this season and compiled a 79.2 stroke average. The sophomore recorded a pair of Top-10 finishes this season, including a sixth-place finish at the Chip-N-Club Invitational to open the 2008-09 season.

Joining Mortensen on the All-SLC Academic Team is Therese Nilsson of Lamar who was named the Women's Golf Student-Athlete of the Year. Maggie Welch of McNeese State, Channing Norton of Lamar and Rebecca Sorensen of Central Arkansas round out the 2008-09 list.

The all-academic teams are voted on by the head coaches, sports information directors and academic/compliance administrators from each Southland university. Student-athletes must possess a 3.0 cumulative GPA, have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution and participated in at least 50 percent of the team's competition to qualify for the all-academic squad.

Included in Capital One Bank's support of the Southland Conference Academic Awards Program is the F.L. McDonald Postgraduate Scholarship, the All-Academic Teams, the Student-Athlete of the Year, the Scholar-Athlete Award and the Commissioner's Honor Roll.
