Women's Golf Signs Pair of Aces
April 14, 2009 SAN MARCOS - Texas State women's golf coach Mike Akers announced the signing of prep standouts Krista Puisite and Valdis Jonsdottir to Letters of Intent Tuesday morning. "I am extremely excited to sign two prospects of this caliber," said Akers. "Both of them have a wealth of international playing experience and both are great students." Puisite will come to Texas State after her time as a member of the Latvian National Team. The Riga, Latvia native claimed the 2007 Girls Championship and followed the performance with an outstanding 2008 season. Puisite claimed the Latvian Amateur Championship along with a Top-10 finish at the German Girls Championship and a Top-25 finish at the Orange Bowl Championship in Miami. Puisite represented her native country in the European Girls Championship and also played in the European Young Masters. "Krista is one of the best young golfers in Europe," commented Akers. "She has played in numerous international events from Hong Kong to Miami. Her golf swing is extremely good and she will have an immediate impact on our program. Krista will help us make a big move in the national rankings next season." Alongside Puisite is international competitor Valdis Jonsdottir. Josdottir will join the Bobcat women's golf team after a two-year stint as a member of the Icelandic National Team. The Akranes, Iceland native took the Iceland Girls Championship in 2204 and 2006. In 2007, the standout was runner-up in the Nordiac Women's Championship and claimed three championship titles in the next year. Josdottir won the Cyprus Open, the KB Bank 6th Event Championship and the Faldo Series Grand Final in Brazil.
"Valdis is a proven winner," said Akers. "She has won numerous events in Europe and had a huge win at the Faldo Series Grand Finale in Brazil last summer. Valdis hits the ball very far and as she develops her short game, she will break par consistently. We are very excited to have Valdis join our team and she will help us with our difficult schedule next season." The 2008-09 team is currently tuning up for the Southland Conference Championships on April 20-22 in Kinder, Louisiana.
