Lake Charles, LA - Striving to trim off the first round folly, the Texas State women's golf team fired a 304 in the final round of the Southland Conference Championships and claimed fourth place to end the 2008-09 season at the Lake Charles Country Club this afternoon.

Texas State opened with a 313 and rebounded with a 302 and 304 for a final score of 919.

"It is very disappointing to end our season this way," said head coach Mike Akers. "We just dug ourselves in a hole in round one."

"The change in venue made a difference for sure. The country club didn't play as difficult as the Koasati Pines, therefore, many teams were in the mix," added Akers.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi nudged UTSA for the 2009 title with a three-round score of 912. The Islanders shot rounds of 308 and 304 before today's round of 300.

UTSA, who entered the final round tied with the Islanders for second place, shot a 913 final score, led by individual leader Allie Jordan. Jordan shot rounds of 73-76-73 to claim first place with a 222 final tally.

McNeese State fell from first place to third with a 918 and Central Arkansas rounded out the Top-5 with a 921 tournament score. The Sugar Bears fired the tournament's lowest round this afternoon with a 296.

For Texas State, Sydney Liles tied for sixth to lead the Bobcats individually. Liles shot a 77 in the opening round and followed with a 74 and 75 to finish with a final tournament score of 226. Freshman Gabby De Reuck tied for 12th-place in her first appearance at the SLC Tournament. De Reuck fired a 230 with round of 78-75-77.

Adin Stromgren also claimed a Top-20 finish after tying for 15th-place to close out the season. Stromgren shot a three-round score of 231, including a Bobcat best in the second round with a 73.

Caitlin Bliss claimed 22nd-place with a 234 and Amy Glazier finished 32nd overall with a 241.

"The future is very bright for us and we are very excited for next year," added Akers.
