TRINITY - Texas State struggled during the final round of the Southland Conference Women's Golf Tournament Wednesday, carding a team score of 338 for the round to fall to fifth place in the final standings.

Lamar's Hiliary Zeringue fired a 76 during the final round to capture individual medalist honors with a score of 225 and lead the Cardinals to the team championship at Whispering Pines Golf Resort.

Lamar, which had three players finish in the top five, ran away with the team championship, beating second-place McNeese State by 15 strokes. The Bobcats were in third place after Tuesday's 36 holes but both Nicholls State and Sam Houston State saved their best rounds for Wednesday and tied for third with three-round scores of 967. Texas State scored a 987 for the tournament.

McNeese State's Maria Engstrom placed second in the tournament with a score of 226, one stroke behind Zeringue, while Cowgirl teammate Lisa Westman, the second-round leader, placed third with a 228. Danielle Mask led the Bobcats, tying for sixth place with a three-round score of 233.
