Lamar Captures CenturyTel Bobcat Spring Invitational Title
April 5, 2005 KYLE - Lamar's Christa Gunn shot a 77 Tuesday to capture medalist honors and lead the Cardinals to the team championship at the CenturyTel Bobcat Spring Invitational Tuesday at Plum Creek Golf Club. Gunn was the individual leader after Monday's 36 holes and wrapped up her third round on Tuesday by making par or better on the last five holes. She birdied the Par 3, 17th hole and finished with a three-round score of 228. Gunn finished two strokes ahead of Texas-Pan American's Stefanie Maynard who shot a 78 Tuesday and finished with a 230. Lamar, who had a double-digit lead in the tournament after Monday's play, carded a team score of 941 to beat second-place Texas-Pan American by two strokes. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi was third (968), Northern Colorado was fourth (974) and Texas State was fifth (975). Texas State was led by Danielle Mask who finished in a tie for seventh with a 240. Mask was just two shots off the tournament lead after the first 36 holes but carded an 87 during Tuesday's final round. The Bobcats' Liz McCoppin finished in a tie for 11th with a three-round score of 242 while Anessa Thompson finished with a 244 to tie for 17th. Texas State closes out the regular season next week at the Southland Conference Championships which will be played at Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity.
