Nov. 27, 2007
SAN MARCOS - Joyce Ekworomadu scored 16 points while Victoria Davis added 14 to lead four Bobcats in double figures as Texas State (4-2) remained unbeaten at home with a 69-58 win over Texas-Pan American (2-2) Tuesday night. Texas State also controlled the paint, holding a 32-20 lead in scoring down low thanks to 11 points from Aimee Hilburn and 10 from Kim Cessna. UTPA used a hot start to build a 10 point lead with just over six minutes left in the first half, but Davis hit a three pointer off a Brooke DeGrate steal to trim the Lady Bronc lead to 30-23 with 5:39 to play. On the Bobcats' next possession, Hilburn made a lay-up and was fouled for the three-point play as Texas State started a 10-0 run over the next five minutes that tied the game at 30-30 before a pair of UTPA field goals gave the visitors a 34-30 half time lead. Texas State came out dominating the second half, using stout defense and hot shooting to mount a 23-6 run and take a 53-40 lead with 8:51 left in the game. UTPA fought back within nine before an Ekworomadu three put Texas State back up by 12 with four minutes to play as the `Cats ran out the final ticks for the 69-58 win. As a team the Bobcats outrebounded the Lady Broncs 37-33 but forced 21 turnovers and 15 steals, including five steals by Davis and four by Ekworomadu. The `Cats also shot 78.6-percent from the line, their best mark of the season. LeKeisha Gray led UTPA with 15 points while Teshay Winfrey added 11. Texas State now heads north for its longest road trip of the season by distance, traveling to Missouri to face the Tigers Dec. 1 before taking on the UMKC Kangaroos on Dec. 3.
