Bobcats Run Past Sugar Bears 95-63
Jan. 12, 2008
SAN MARCOS - Joyce Ekworomadu scored a game-high 19 points to lead a trio of Bobcats in double figures as Texas State stayed undefeated in Southland Conference play with a 95-63 win over Central Arkansas on Saturday. The 95 points scored by the Bobcats (8-7, 2-0 SLC) marked the highest point total against an SLC opponent in head coach Suzanne Fox's 11 seasons, besting last year's 90-point total at Central Arkansas (2-13, 0-2 SLC). It was also the most points in an SLC game since a 96-43 win over UTSA on Feb. 13, 1993. Ekworomadu got hot early, scoring nine of the Bobcats' first 12 points as Texas State opened on a 12-2 run over the first two minutes. The Sugar Bears fought back, using a 10-3 run to pull within three at 19-16 with 11:15 remaining in the first half. UCA would get no closer though thanks to a 13-4 Texas State run that extended the lead back to double figures. UCA's Whitney Betts hit a lay-up with 6:02 left in the half to cut the lead to 34-25, but Texas State held the Sugar Bears without a field goal for the remainder of the half, going on an 11-2 run in the process to lead at half time 45-27. The second half was more of the same as the Bobcats stretched the lead to 28 midway through the frame. UCA would get no closer than 25, eventually falling by the 95-63 final. Ashley Cole netted 15 points off the bench for Texas State while Victoria Davis added 14. Ekworomadu was also the game's high rebounder, tallying eight. Five Sugar Bears scored in double figures, led by Meagan Nickell's 15. Texas State now looks to break their road losing streak by heading east to Southeastern Louisiana and Nicholls State next week in the longest road trip of the SLC portion of the schedule.
