SAN MARCOS - Texas State University has announced the signing of golfers Guy Goodspeed and Oscar Zetterwall to national letters of intent.

Goodspeed will join the program from Del Rio High School while Zetterwall is an international signee from Mariefred, Sweden.

"Guy's rise to the collegiate level is a great story," said Texas State women's golf coach Mike Akers who has also taken on responsibilities as interim head coach for the men. "Del Rio offers Guy a nine-hole course where he has fine tuned his iron game and wedges. In his first AJGA event in Abilene, he fired a 70-69-77 and finished in seventh place."

Goodspeed's low round was a 65 at the San Felipe Country Club. During the 2005 Texas State Boy's Championship at Barton Creek he shot a 67.

"Guy can go low and looks forward to continuing to improve at Texas State," Akers added. "His mother, aunt and high school coach were all Bobcats so Texas State is the perfect fit for him."

Zetterwall has competed in many international events and beaten several of the top players in Sweden.

"I have known about Oscar from my time coaching at Central Florida last year," Akers said. "He is very verse on different types of golf courses and will not shy away from any competition. He is a golfer in every sense of the word. I know he is looking forward to the weather in San Marcos so he can work on his game throughout the year."
