Men's Golf Team Finishes Second Round In Seventh Place At the Southland Conference Championships

Kerrville, Texas- - The Texas State men's golf team shot a three-over-par 291 in the second round to move into sole possession of seventh place at the 2009 Southland Conference Championships that is being played at The Bulb at Comanche Trace Tuesday afternoon. Jeff Gerlich led the Bobcats with a three-under-par 69 on the par 72, 7276-yard course, while Michael Carnes fired a one-under 71 in the second round of the tournament. Corey Roberson finished the second round with a two-over-par 74, while Carson Gibson and Philip Krebsbach each shot five-over-par. Roberson enters the final round tied for 15th place in the individual standings with a tow-round total of 147 , while Gerlich moved up 12 spots into 27th place and enters the final round with a six-over total of 150 through the first two rounds. Carson Gibson is two shots back of Gerlich at 152, while Philip Kresbach has a two-round total of 153. Lamar enters Wednesday's final round in first place after posting a team score of 11-under-par 277 in the second round and ended the day with a two-round total score of 9-under par 567. The Cardinals moved past first-round leader UT Arlington, as the Mavericks ended the second round five shots back after the fired an even-par score of 288 in the second round. UTA opened the tournament at four-under-par after posting a team score of 284. Southeastern Louisiana shot an even par 288 to move into third place with a two-round total of 580, while UTSA is in fourth place with a team score of 583 after the Roadrunners shot a three-under-par 285 in the second round. Stephen F. Austin stands in fifth place with two round score of 588 after the Lumberjacks finished the second day with a six-under 282. Central Arkansas is seven strokes ahead of Texas State with a two round total of 589. The Bobcats remain four shots ahead of Sam Houston State, which also posted a three-over-par 291 in the second round. McNeese State and Nicholls round out the teams with two-round scores of 616 and 627, respectively. UTA's Zack Fischer is the individual leader with a two-round score of 9-under-par 136, while UTSA's Kyle Collins is in second place at five under. Lamar's Justin Harding is tied for third place with Chad Spencer of Stephen F. Austin at four-under-par. Harding's teammates, Hugues Joannes and Kevin Hesbois ended the second round with two-round totals of 141 and 142, respectively. Southeastern Louisiana's Cedrick Scotto is in seven place at one-under and Lerooux Ferriera of Lamar ended the day at even par and is in eighth place.
