Bobcats in Sixth at SLC Championship

KERRVILLE - Texas State is in a tie for fifth following the first round of the Southland Conference Men's Golf Championship being played at The Club at Commanche Trace. Freshman Carson Gibson carded a first-round score of 74 to lead the Bobcats during Monday's opening round and is currently tied for 11th. The `Cats shot a 309 as a team and are currently tied for fifth with Sam Houston State. Texas-Arlington is currently in fourth, four strokes ahead of the Bobcats and the Bearkats. The three teams will be paired against one another during Tuesday's second round which gets underway at 8 a.m. The threesomes Texas State will play begin with a 9:10 a.m. tee time. Michael Carnes, another freshman for the Bobcats, is tied for 20th after shooting a 77 on Monday while junior Tyler Barnes-Wolf shot a 78 and is in a tie for 24th. Lamar opened a six-stroke lead on both Texas-San Antonio and Southeastern Louisiana who are tied for second. Lamar shot a 284 while both UTSA and SLU carded 290s. All three teams have players tied for the individual lead. Lamar's Casey Clendenon, UTSA's Thomas Kearney and Southeastern's Matt Carvell all shot two-under 70s to co-lead the championship after the first round. Three other golfers are tied for fourth after firing one-under par 71s including Lamar's Justin Harding and SLU's Hugo Leon.
