The Texas State football team is ranked in five Top 25 FCS preseason polls heading into the 2009 season.

Lindy's Football preseason magazine gave Texas State its highest preseason ranking as it picked the Bobcats sixth in its poll. 

CollegeSportingNews.com listed Texas State No. 18 in its Consolidated ranking which  is a point systems that is based on preseason rankings by Lindy's, Athlon Sports, Sporting News and Any Given Saturday (AGS). In addition to Lindy's ranking, Athlon Sports listed Texas State No. 22 in its preseason FCS poll in its annual preseason magazine, and the AGS (Any Given Saturday) preseason poll has Texas State ranked 23.

Lindy's and Dave Campbell's Texas Football Magazine also picked the Bobcats to win their second straight Southland Conference championship.

Last season, Texas State surprised most preseason observers when the Bobcats won their first outright Southland Conference title and finished the season ranked No. 22 by The Sports Network and No.23 by the FCS Coaches poll with an 8-5 overall record.
