Moshier Receives Academic Honor
Jan. 3, 2006 CLEVELAND, Ohio - Texas State senior tight end Randy Moshier has been named to the Eighth Annual Division I-AA Athletics Directors Association Academic All-Star Team by the Division I-AA Athletics Directors Association. Moshier was one of 44 student-athletes named to the team. The Converse native helped lead Texas State to a Southland Conference championship and the school's first ever appearance in the NCAA Division I-AA playoffs. The Bobcats posted an 11-3 record and were national semifinalists. "We are proud of the young men who have earned this award," said Don Kaverman, chair of the Division I-AA ADA Academic All-Star Team Selection Committee and athletics director at Southeast Missouri State University. "They represent the outstanding student-athletes found in Division I-AA football." Football players from all Division I-AA institutions are eligible for the award. Each nominee was required to have a minimum grade point average of 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale) in undergraduate study and have been a starter or key player with legitimate athletics credentials. He must have reached his second year of athletics and academic standing at the nominated institution and have completed a minimum of one full academic year at the nominated institution. Moshier started at tight end for the Bobcats and was the top placement on Hibernia Bank/SLC All-Academic Team with a 3.74 cumulative grade point average as an undergraduate. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor's degree in political science in May, 2004 before returning to play two seasons for the Bobcats as a graduate student. He is on track to graduate with a master's degree in business administration this spring and plans on attending law school. On the field, Moshier was primarily responsible for blocking in the Bobcats' offensive scheme but caught four passes for 41 yards during the year. He was named All-Southland Conference Honorable Mention. Also among the team selections from the Southland Conference were Stephen F. Austin center Matt Hoelscher and Northwestern State linebacker Paul Mefford. A special Review Committee of Division I-AA athletics directors was responsible for selection the all-star team.
