Recap |  Final Stats |  Notes

Texas State Coach David Bailiff
"The expectation still has to be to compete for a conference championship every year. That was these seniors expectation. That was my expectation. We didn't achieve that. We're still making progress in this program but the expectation has to be to win championships and graduate players. People are going to do what is expected of them. We're not going to lower our expectations. We're going to work harder every year that we are here. I know we just beat Sam Houston but I can't wait for off-season work, I can't wait to go recruit. That win just really re-energized this coaching staff and this football team. It was that big to go 3-3 in conference and 5-6 overall. We're four plays that we could have made or four flags away from four more wins. All we can worry about is what we can control this off season. We're going to work hard on eliminating our mistakes and being mentally tough when the season starts next year.

"We lost 27 seniors from last year and had 31 new faces. We continued to grow as a team all year. The relationships and the bonding continued to grow from August until now. That was really exciting to watch. Even through that four-game learning streak, all they did was work hard. There wasn't a day starting August 6th that they didn't come out to improve themselves and improve as a football team."

On Bradley George entering the game in the fourth quarter
"Chase Wasson can not go under center because of the brace on his thumb. With the ball on the one-inch line, we were not going to take any chances at that point. We would have loved to pushed it out of there but we were more worried with running the clock out. We weren't going to make any mistakes. That is why we had Bradley under center. Chase couldn't take the snap."

Texas State Running Back Stan Zwinggi
On his 49-yard TD run to break a 14-14 halftime tie

"We were trying to get on that read. They were bringing the linebackers around the edge. At halftime we corrected. I was told to stick with the play side and jump it back which I did then I just cut down the sideline."

On his 80-yard TD reception to give Texas State a 28-14 lead
"I thought I was about ready to get blown up. The pass was a little high and I tipped it. I thought someone was just going to clean me up. But things ended up well and I just headed down the sideline. I saw my blockers coming from the backside and I just cut back behind them.

Texas State Defensive Back Jamarqus O'Neal
On Second-Half Interception

"All season on the switch-off, I haven't got it right. The coaches told me they may come at me with the switch-off so look for it. I saw it coming and made the play. I just saw the ball and I had to go get it.

"This is like last year when we won the conference championship. We knew they wanted it really bad. It was emotional for me to win this game and go out with a victory."

Texas State Defensive Back Walter Musgrove
"Obviously we did not have a chance to go out with a title but we had a chance to go out with a victory. To come in accomplish what we had to do to win means a lot. We just pulled together. As a senior, I appreciate the younger guys who were really playing for us seniors. I appreciate how the underclassmen came out and worked and kept a positive attitude. It really felt like the end of the season each player on the team played for someone other than themselves.

"From the corner position it's hard to see a lot, but I just know when it's goal line and the d-line came up with the stands they did, you have to give it up to them."
