Opening Statement
We needed this win like we needed oxygen. It was good for us. I'm proud of these guys because we had a great attitude and great senior leadership out there today. Seniors were making plays. I'm most proud of Chase Wasson for getting his first reps back on Tuesday at quarterback. To be able to play how he played is just a tribute to that young man.
On Emotions Involved With The Final Home Game...
It's a sad day for these kids. They just took their home jerseys off for the last time in their career. It's an emotional time for a coach and an emotional time for a football team. I guarantee that when Walter and Dallas go back into the locker room, they're going to reflect on their last five years here and what it's been like to play at Bobcat Stadium. Next Saturday will be extremely emotional because they are true competitors and next week something they've done for most of their life is coming to an end. It's a sad day for me too as a coach because you don't want them to graduate, you want them to stay around here because you get really close to these young men.
Quarterback Chase Wasson
On Playing Quarterback Again...
It felt good. It's always better when you can touch the ball every play.
On His Touchdown Reception...
He hit me on stride and led me out there. It was one of the prettiest balls I've seen thrown to me. It was a good feeling.
Running Back Stan Zwinggi
On His Success Tonight...
It's my first year back at running back so I'm getting the feel for the game. There were a couple of guys on the line who just opened up the hole.
Senior Cornerback Walter Musgrove
On Winning His Final Home Game...
It was huge. I wanted to try to take something positive out of a negative situation. Obviously the season hasn't gone the way we wanted it to go, but at this point to get to go out on top at home feels great. I remember my first game here in 2003 against Angelo State and it seemed like this day would be a lifetime away. Now that it's here, that first game seems like yesterday.
On His Interception...
When you play corner you have to have a short memory. All game I'd been shadowing the receiver in his hip pocket, and when he caught it I was right there. I felt like I had to make a play at that point. I didn't want that to be my last opportunity to make a play on a pass and have a guy catch the ball. I was hoping and praying that when they got down in the red zone they'd throw the fade. I felt like I'd have an opportunity to make a play and when they threw the fade, it worked out. When you're 5'9", you know you're going to see a lot of fades in the end zone, and I was right there to make a play.
Wide Receiver Morris Crosby
On His Touchdown Pass...
It felt pretty good to go out there and throw the pigskin one more time.
Senior Safety Dallas Coleman
On His Performance Tonight...
It felt real good in my last home game as a Bobcat. Obviously you get to go out with a win like that, and on the interception he threw it right to me.
Texas Southern Head Coach Steve Wilson
On his team's big plays...
"We've got some players who can make big plays...(on our two successful fake punts) there were a couple of automatics (on Texas State's formation) we saw in there that triggered the play."
On what went wrong in the game...
"We're working on a war of attrition right now, and that's really what gave us a lot of problems in this game."
On his team's injury situation as the season closes...
"We've had a lot of people hurt all year, and we lost at least five more kids tonight. Our quarterback (Tino Edgecombe) had a bad ankle coming in, he's missed some time, and he kind of reinjured it there (when he left in the fourth quarter). These kids are really fighting hard, we're just kind of running out of bodies."
