Texas State Notes
Texas State ran its current winning streak to three games with Saturday's 45-31 win over Southeastern Louisiana. It's the longest win streak since the 2005 squad won five straight - the team's final three regular-season games and two games during the Division I FCS playoffs.
Southeastern Louisiana remained winless against the Bobcats. SLU has lost all 11 meetings in the series.
Texas State junior place kicker Andrew Ireland booted a 52-yard field goal with 9:34 to play to give Texas State a 31-28 lead. The field goal tied a school record set by Jason Howers against North Texas, Nov. 11, 1989.
Southeastern Louisiana's Mark Turner answered at the other end of the field with his second, career-best 47-yarder of the game. Turner connected on six field goals (20, 24, 43, 47, 22 and 47) to set a new Southland Conference record for field goals in a game. The previous record was five held by six different players. Shonz LaFrenz had five field goals twice and was the last to do it (1197 against Northern Iowa).
Texas State senior Chris MacDonald entered the game leading the nation in punting average (45.32). Against Southeastern Louisiana he had four punts for a 53.2 average.
Texas State freshman Karrington Bush rushed for 179 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries. The game marked Bush's fourth 100-yard game of the season.
Cameron Luke had his fourth, 100-yard receiving game of the season Saturday against Southeastern Louisiana. Luke caught five balls for 110 yards, including a 34-yard touchdown recepion in the second quarter.
The Bobcats entered Saturday's game having converted 10 fourth-down plays in 20 attempts. Against Southeastern, the 'Cats were 2-for-3 on fourth down.
Texas State safety Daniel Varvel iced the game with his second interception in as manyh weeks.
