  • Coming off an open week, Texas State made major changes to its defensive unit Saturday. The Bobcats started true freshman Brian Williams at middle linebacker while defensive end Freddy Paige moved into a starting role at the will linebacker position. Also, cornerback Morgan Taylor moved into a starting role at strong safety.

  • Brian Williams, who prepped at Rice Consolidated and is from Eagle Lake, became the fourth true freshman to see significant playing time this season. Marcus Clark has started all four games this season and moved from will to the sam linebacker position for the McNeese game. T.P. Miller made his second start at free safety for the Bobcats. Freshman receiver Corey Scott has seen significant action all season and had three receptions for 42 yards including a six-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter.

  • A fifth true freshman also made his debut Saturday as Jason Martinson saw action. The North Richland Hills native had an eight-yard catch in the game.

  • Defensively, Texas State was led in tackles by a pair of first-time starters. Both Freddy Pagie, who moved from defensive end to will linebacker, had six stops in his first start. Paige was in on 1.5 tackles for lost yards. Middle linebacker Brian Williams also had six tackles in the game.

  • McNeese State snapped a three-game losing streak against the Bobcats with the win. The Cowboys' last regular-season loss came against Texas State as the squad has now won 10 straight regular-season games.

  • The Bobcats have now lost their last four games after open dates.

  • Texas State quarterbacks distributed their passes to 11 different receivers on the night.

  • Freshman running back Karrington Bush led the Bobcats in both rushing and receiving yards. The Whitewright native had 17 carries for 82 yards. He caught four passes for 42 yards.

  • Andrew Ireland had field goals of 31 and 33 yards in the game. The junior is now 4-for-6 on the year.

  • Senior punter Chris MacDonald had a second-quarter punt block. He had two 40+ yard punts in the game but went on to average 49.8 yards on six punts.
