KENNESAW, Ga. - Texas State will square off against another 2-0 team today as the Bobcats take on Colgate in the opening round of Kennesaw State's 100 Club Classic. Tip-off is slated for 4 p.m. Central.

In other first-round action tonight host Kennesaw State takes on an old Southland Football League rival of the Bobcats, Jacksonville State. Consolation and championship games are slated for Saturday evening in the KSU Convocation Center.

The Bobcats have opened a season 2-0 for the first time since the 2002-03 season when the squad defeated Mary Hardin-Baylor 84-63 then went on the road to knock off Texas Southern 79-71. You have to go all the way back to the 1986-87 season to find a 3-0 start and go back to the 1980-81 season when the Bobcats were still playing at the Division II level to find a longer season-opening win streak than three.

Texas State opened the `80-81 year at 6-0. The start included a 92-90 overtime win on the road at Texas Lutheran and a 68-67 upset win at Rice (the Bobcats' next home opponent on Dec. 5).

Colgate is also off to a 2-0 start. Earlier this week the Raiders defeated Canisius 61-47. Colgate opened the year with a 63-60 win over Monmouth.

Colgate is led by junior swingman Kyle Roemer who is also the Raiders' team captain. Roemer is coming off a 16-point, five-rebound game at Canisius and for the year is averaging 15.5 points and 4.5 boards.

The Raiders play a totally different style than Texas State as is indicative of their 62 scoring average. They have held their opponents to 53.5 points per game.

Texas State, on the other hand, is going to push the ball up the floor. The Bobcats are averaging an even 100 points an outing but have given up 82.5 points per game.

The 'Cats have forced 49 turnovers through two games but have also turned the ball over 49 times.

Texas State junior guard Brandon Bush is coming off a double-double against Dallas Baptist (23/11) and is averaging 20 points and nine rebounds for the Bobcats through the first two games of the season.

Texas State opened the year with a 101-81 win over Huston-Tillotson then knocked off DBU 99-84 in a pair of games played at home in Strahan Coliseum.

For the first time since the 2003-04 season when the squad traveled to both the Great Alaska Shootout as well as the Price Cutter Classic in Springfield, Mo., Texas State is playing in an in-season tournament. The Bobcats posted a combined 1-5 record in the two tournaments.

It will not be a true bracketed tourney, but the Bobcats also travel to the SMU Holiday Classic in late December.
