The team read to the children grades kindergarten through sixth grade. Every member of the team was present as they traveled from classroom to classroom in groups of two to read to the children. The players started off with some of the older kids first as Brandon Bush and Ty Gough visited with the sixth grade class and Ryan White and Jonathan Sloan read to the fifth graders. Bush and Gough found out by the end of their visit that many of the sixth grade students loved science. When they asked them what they wanted to be many students responded with marine biologist, veterinarian, Dallas Cowboy cheerleader and a horse trainer.
White and Rybak found themselves playing "Are you smarter than a fifth grader?", and to the children's delight the fifth graders won. Throughout the two hours the team spent at Wonderland, they made a visit to every classroom in the school. They passed out mini basketballs for the children to take home with them as souvenirs. The men's basketball team will be making another visit during their "Reading with the Bobcats" tour as they will be at Bowie Elementary on Thursday, Oct. 2 from 8 a.m.-10 a.m. The 'Cats will also be visiting DeZavala Elementary on Oct 7 and Crockett Elementary on Oct. 9. |
