Brandon Bush Named SLC Men's Basketball Player of the Week

Frisco, Texas - Texas State senior guard Brandon Bush has been named the Southland Conference men's basketball player of the week, the league office announced Sunday. This is the first time a Bobcats has been named this season. Bush averaged 26 points, 10 rebounds and five assists in a pair of games last week. The senior from Houston, Texas, shot 65.5 percent (19-29) from the field and 68.4 percent from the free-throw line. The Mayde Creek High School product registered career highs of 28 points and 14 rebounds along with five assists to lead Texas State to an 80-66 victory over UTSA to clinch the seventh seed in this week's conference tournament. Bush followed that performance with a team-high 24 points, six rebounds and five assists at Sam Houston State. Texas State is 14-15 overall and 7-9 in conference play and will open the tournament Thursday against No. 2 seed Nicholls State at noon. Honorable mention this week goes to Nicholls State guard/forward Anatoly Bose, Sam Houston State guard Cory Allmond, Southeastern Louisiana center Patrick Sullivan and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi guard Kevin Palmer. The 2009 State Farm Southland Conference Basketball Tournament will be played at the Merrell Center in Katy, Texas, and gets underway with four women's quarterfinal games on Wednesday. The men's teams take to the court on Thursday.
