SAN MARCOS - Charles Dotson scored 17 points and had two of Texas State's 10 blocked shots as the Bobcats defeated Texas-Tyler 84-71 Friday in Strahan Coliseum.

Texas State improved to 2-8 heading into its Southland Conference opener Jan. 7 against Lamar. Texas-Tyler is now 4-4.

Texas State trailed most of the first half, falling behind by as many as nine points in the period. The Bobcats would rally to outscore UT Tyler 16-6 over the final 6:30 of the half. Jason Rogers' putback at the buzzer gave Texas State a 37-36 lead at the break.

UT Tyler would regain the lead early in the second half but midway through the period Texas State would tie the score at 51-51 then go on a 20-6 run to build a 71-57 lead by the 7:44 mark. Seven different Texas State players would score during the rally, capped by a Chris Langhorne pass to Dylan Moseley for a short jumper that put the Bobcats up by 14 points. Texas State fell one block shy of tying a school record set earlier this season. The Bobcats shot 57 percent from the field for the game while holding the Patriots to a 44 percent shooting night.
