Nicholls Knocks Off 'Cats, 86-67
March 3, 2006 THIBODAUX, La. - Nicholls State junior swingman Stefan Blaszczynski scored 25 points to help lead the Colonels to a season-ending 86-67 win over Texas State in Stopher Gymnasium Friday. Blaszczynski was one of three Nicholls players to score 20 points or more including senior Cyril Djoukeng, who closed out his career with a 23-point night while Adonis Gray scored 20 points. As a team, the Colonels knocked down 12-of-24 three-pointers and shot 50.8 percent from the field. Texas State was led by freshman Brandon Bush who scored a career-high 21 points. Junior Charles Dotson scored 12 points while senior Lance Burroughs finished with 10. Nicholls State opened the second period on a 10-2 run that allowed the Colonels to stretch a 10-point lead at the half into a 48-30 advantage after the break. Dixon highlighted the Nicholls run with a break-away dunk that gave the Colonels a 48-30 lead with 16:04 to play. NSU led by as many as 10 points twice in the first period. Texas State erased the first double-digit lead with an 8-0 run of its own before Nicholls scored 10 straight points to extend the lead back to double figures. Blaszczynski made three straight buckets for Nicholls, including one of his three, three-point baskets on the night. Djoukeng was 5-for-7 from three-point range. The game marked the final contest for Texas State coach Dennis Nutt who announced his resignation on Thursday. The Bobcats close out the year with a 3-24 record and was 1-15 in the Southland Conference. Nicholls State ends the season with a record of 9-18, including a 5-11 in the SLC.
