Murfreesboro, TN - The Texas State baseball duo of Paul Goldschmidt and Kane Holbrooks continue to bring in the accolades for the 2009 season as they were named to the American Baseball Coaches Association South Central All-Region First Team, released the organization Friday afternoon.

The pair join seven other Bobcats with the honor and mark just the third and fourth members to be named to the First Team.

Goldschmidt, who took first team honors at first base, closed out his junior season batting .352 with 37 hits for extra bases, included a single-season record of 18 home runs. The Woodlands, Texas native received All-American honors by Collegiate Baseball and was recently selected in the 8th round of the 2009 MLB First-Year Player Draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks. Goldschmidt was named the 2009 Southland Conference Hitter and Player of the Year.

Holbrooks occupies one of three First-Team pitcher positions on the All-Region Team. The senior led Texas State with a 10-1 overall record in 16 appearances on the mound. Holbrooks was awarded All-America honors twice this season, Second-Team honors by Collegiate Baseball and Third-Team honors by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. A native of Aledo, Texas, Holbrooks posted a 3.29 ERA in 101.1 innings with a team-best 57 strikeouts. Holbrooks received the 2009 SLC Pitcher of the Year award and was drafted by the Minnesota Twins last Wednesday.

The duo concluded their respective careers with Texas State by helping the team to its first appearance in the NCAA Regional Championship Tournament for the first time since 2000. The Bobcats finished with a 41-17 overall record.
