Going Yard visits Bobcat Field

San Marcos - Texas State played their way to a, 8-5 victory over Stephen F. Austin in game two of the series. Jared Bunn posted his fourth home run of the season, as the Bobcats improve to 17-6 in the Southland Conference and 32-16 overall.

The Lumberjacks out hit the Bobcats, 12-9 and had two home runs but could not overcome a four-run inning in the first. SFA falls to 12-11 in the SLC and 25-23 overall. Steven Hill put the Lumberjacks up in the bottom of the first, with his 21st home run of the season.

Bunn and the Bobcats answered back, scoring four runs in the first inning. Adam Witek, doubled to right field and scored off of a wild pitch. David Wood walked and was brought in by an Aaron Garza ground out and then Bunn hit a two-run homer, scoring Paul Goldschmidt.

SFA added a run in the second, after Justin Long scored off of a Jeff Brewer double, cutting the Bobcats lead, 4-2.

Texas State scored a run in the second and third innings, taking a, 6-2 lead. Casey Guest scored off of a wild pitch in the second and Laurn Randell scored off of a Ben Theriot double in the third.

The Lumberjacks scored their final runs of the day in the sixth inning. Zack Gardner doubled, driving in two runs. At this point in the game, Jason Baca came in to relieve starter Mike Hart.

 

 

Guest scored in the sixth and Thomas Field added an insurance run in the eighth. Baca gave up a home run in the ninth inning, but struck out the last batter to end the game.

Hart (7-4) threw 5.1 innings and picked up the win. He allowed nine hits, four runs and struck out five. Field went three-for-four at the plate and scored one run, while Bunn went one-for-four with two RBIs and scored one run.

Game three of the series between Texas State and SFA takes place tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. at Bobcat Field.
