Texas State University and head baseball coach Ty Harrington announced the promotion of Jeremy Fikac to assistant baseball coach for the Bobcats in the 2009 baseball season.
Fikac will enter his second season with the Texas State Bobcats and first as an Assistant Coach after being promoted in the fall.
"We are fortunate to have someone who has been a part of the Texas State family in this position," said head coach Ty Harrington. "Jeremy will bring so much ownership to the table, along with infinite baseball knowledge and a competitive baseball nature."
Fikac will continue his role in developing the Texas State offense and outfield positions, along with scheduling duties and assisting with recruiting.
"It is rare to find an individual who was a two-way player in the collegiate atmosphere and (Jeremy) Fikac excelled and doing just that and went on to play in the major league. I am eager to see his talent and direction passed on to our athletes."
Prior to joining the Bobcat baseball staff, Fikac spent seven years in the professional circuit as a pitcher for the San Diego Padres. The Shiner, Texas native was drafted in 1998 after playing for former head coach Howard Bushong at SWT and made his major league debut on August 16, 2001 against the New York Mets. Fikac earned his first win, fanning Benny Agbayni, Vance Wilson and Jay Payton in the effort.
"My most memorable moments as a player are the accomplishments I made as a member of the Bobcat baseball team, not as an individual," said Fikac. "I am honored to accept this position and more importantly, eager to continue with the development of this team."
