PLANO - Texas State senior cross country runner James Ortiz has been named the Aeropostale Southland Conference Cross Country Athlete of the Week.

Ortiz was the top collegiate finisher at last Saturday's Texas State Classic and helped lead the Bobcats to the men's team championship. The Uvalde, Texas native covered the 8,000-meter course in a winning time of 25:41.

Texas State had five runners place in the top 10 as the `Cats scored a season-low 24 points to win the team title.

The Bobcats are slated to run again this weekend at the Chile Pepper Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.
