Cross Country Wraps up Season at SLC Championships

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Texas State men's and women's cross country wrapped up competition at the Southland Conference Cross Country Championships this morning at West Guth Park in Corpus Christi. The women's team placed eighth, while the men finished ninth. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi scored 58 points to win its third overall and consecutive Southland championship. Stephen F. Austin finished second with 82 points followed by UT Arlington (105), UTSA (115) and McNeese State (128). Steffanie Armstrong was the top finisher for the Bobcats as she took 16th place with a time of 21:51. Esperanza Lopez was next with a time of 22:28. Rounding out the Top 5 were Heather Bullin (22:29), Sandra Venegas (22:58) and Dana Dolejsi (23:28). For the men, Lamar scored 38 points to record its fourth consecutive conference championship. McNeese State finished second with 65 points followed by UTSA (86), Stephen F. Austin (87) and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (127). The title was the Cardinals' ninth overall. Michael Morris crossed the line first for the Texas State men with a time of 25:47 and 27th place. Hugo Corral clocked a time of 26:19. The next three finishers for the men were Jesus Ordaz (26:29), Matt Novak (27:31) and Andres Herrera (27:41).
