NACOGDOCHES - The Bobcat women finished fourth and the men placed sixth at the Southland Conference Cross Country Championships hosted by Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches on Friday. Lamar won its fourth straight women's title with 46 points while also capturing the men's title with 37. Points are determined by adding up the place finishes for each school's top five runners with the lowest cumulative point total being crowned champion. Texas State's women joined the Cardinals as the only female team to have three runners finish in the top 10 of the 6,000-meter championship. Tenley Determan was the highest finishing Bobcat, placing sixth, while Whitney Perkins and Heather Bullin were ninth and 10th. Samantha Evola finished in 40th while Brittany Rosen placed 43 to round out the top-five finishers for the `Cats. April Murphy and Marina Andruzzi also competed, finishing 46th and 49th. On the men's side, it was more Lamar dominance as four Cardinal runners finished in the top six. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Shadrack Songok won the 8,000-meter event with a time of 24:20, four seconds ahead of Lamar's Samuel Kosgei, who placed second, and 10 seconds ahead of Kosgei's teammate Francis Kasagule, the race's third finisher.
