Bobcats Finish Strong at Buffalo Bayou Invitational

HOUSTON - Texas State cross country was in action yesterday at Rice University's Buffalo Bayou Invitational. The men's team earned its second consecutive first place finish, with four Bobcats finishing at the top. Sophomore woman Tenley Determan finished second on the evening. Senior James Ortiz grabbed a first place finish, posting an 8K time of 25:43.61. This is his second consecutive win. Last week, he led Texas State to a first place finish at the Bobcat Classic and was named the Aeropostale Southland Conference Cross Country Athlete of the Week. Javier Prado, Alex Escontrias and Francisco Elizalde rounded out the top four and Andrew McCartin finished sixth in the winning effort. The team also won the Bobcat Classic after finishing 16th at Oklahoma State's Cowboy Jamboree. On the women's side, sophomore Tenley Determan earned a second place finish for the `Cats. She finished behind Texas-San Antonio's Rita Lambert. In the best individual performance of her career, the College Station native recorded a 5K time of 18:19.34. The women's team finished fourth overall with Brittany Rosen coming in 16th. Stephanie Flores finished just outside the top 20 and crossed the finish line in 21st place. Texas State's cross country contingent will race next weekend in UTSA Short Course before heading to the Southland Conference Championship on Oct. 31.
