Texas State Opens Cross Country Season at A&M
Sept. 10, 2005 COLLEGE STATION - Texas State freshman Alex Encontrias led the Bobcats with a 14th-place finish as the `Cats opened the 2005 cross country season with a fourth-place finish at the Texas A&M Invitational Saturday. The Bobcat women were led by sophomore Tenley Determan who placed 19th as the squad placed sixth in the first meet of the season. Texas A&M posted a perfect score of 15 to win the men's invitational while Stephen F. Austin was second (54 points) and Baylor was third (90 points). The Bobcats scored 97 points in their fourth-place finish. On the women's side, Baylor posted a perfect score while Texas A&M was second (58) and both Texas and Houston tied for third (102 points). Trinity was fifth (111 points) while Texas State scored 164 points. Encontrias ran the men's 8K course in 25:58. Also placing in the Top 20 for the Bobcats was senior Javier Prado (26:06) and freshman Francisco Avelar, Jr. (26:11). Determan ran the women's 5K course in 18:29. Sophomore Kirby West placed 27th on the women's side with a time of 19:08. The Bobcats open at home next week when they play host to the Texas State Invitational at Gary Job Corps.
