Gregory Zarate begins his fourth season with the Bobcats, serving as assistant coach for both the cross country and track & field programs. Zarate's duties include assisting in all aspects of the men's and women's cross country and distance programs, coordinating recruiting for cross country and is co-meet coordinator for all Texas State home track meets.

Before coming to Texas State, Zarage was a student assistant coach at Texas Lutheran University for three years, assisting the women's cross country and track & field teams. While he was attending TLU he also ran on the men's running club team. Zarate is a USA Track & Field Level 1 Certified coach and is pursuing Level 2 certification.

Zarate is a 2004 Texas State graduate, completing his bachelor's degree in Exercise and Sports Science with a minor in Health Education. He also received his Secondary Teaching Certificate and is currently pursuing his master's degree in Sports and Leisure Management.

Zarate lives in San Marcos with his wife Molly, a former Texas State athlete and assistant coach.
