Track and Field Set for Action at NCAA Midwest Regional
May 28, 2009 Click here for live results SAN MARCOS, Texas - Texas State men's and women's track and field programs will be sending 16 athletes to Norman, Okla. to compete at the 2009 NCAA Track and Field Midwest Regional being hosted by the University of Oklahoma at John Jacobs Field from Friday, May 29-30. Texas State will have 10 men competing at the regional. The 4x100 meter relay team of Aaron Jones, Stefon Hargrove, Brandon Thomas and Kevin Aje will be the only Bobcat qualifiers on the track. In the field will be Kemuel Morales in the shot put who has the fifth-best mark of 18.22m (59-09.50) entering the event. Andy Ysebaert will also be competing in the shot put. Dmitri Kabakov will compete in the men's pole vault. His mark is the 19th best jump entering the weekend. In the pit will be Ikenna Obonna and Goldstein Okafor. They enter the event with the 27th and 29th best jumps. The women will have six athletes competing at the regional, all in the field. Jennifer Matthews enters the meet with a season-best mark of 3.85m (12-07.50) in the pole vault; coming off a Southland Conference Championship Outdoor title. She is ranked 14th in the event.
Another SLC champion competing this weekend will be Valerie Hancock in the high jump. She is a three-time SLC winner in the event. Her height of 1.81m (5-11.25) gives her the third-best mark amongst her competitors this weekend. Katherine Evans holds the same mark and will enter in the fourth spot. Doing double duty this weekend will be Asiya Iskakova as she will compete in both the high jump and triple jump this weekend. Iskakova's height of 1.76m (5-09.25) is the ninth highest. In the triple, the SLC Champion will be amongst the Top 20 with her mark of 12.63m (41-05.25). Katie Hanie and Jiovanna Martinez will be competing in the discus. Hanie has the 12th best mark going into the event with a distance of 163-11 (49.96m). Martinez has a season-best mark of 158-10 (48.41m). Automatic qualification into the National Championships will be declared to the top five declared finishers from each Regional individual event and the top three declared finishers from each regional relay event. The NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held from June 10-13 at John McDonnell Field in Fayetteville, Ark. |
