Texas State junior Camilla Davis was honored as the high point scorer for the Southland Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship which concluded Monday at Maverick Stadium in Arlington.

Davis, who prepped at Palacios High School, only competed in the long jump twice during the season - at the Southland Conference Indoor Championship in February and then on Sunday at the SLC Outdoors. She won the event with a mark of 6.27 meters (20-07), the third-best long jump in Texas State history.

In addition to the long jump, Davis clocked the best prelim time in the 100 meters, registering an NCAA Midwest Regional-qualifying time of 11.70. She would finish second in the 100 meter finals with the fifth-best time in Texas State history (11.61). She also placed fourth in the 200 meters and was a member of Texas State's 4x100 meter relay team which finished in fourth place on Monday.

"Unbelievable." It was one word Texas State assistant coach Blaine Wiley used to sum up Davis' weekend performance.

"She had not competed in the long jump since the SLC Indoor meet," Wiley said. "T o go out there and jump that far without practicing is just amazing. She gave one of the most courageous performances I have witnessed. She competed like a champion."

Davis and a number of teammates will next compete in the NCAA Midwest Regional slated for Memorial Day weekend in Austin.
