Hancock and Iskakova Earn SLC Outdoor Track and Field Honors

SAN MARCOS, Texas - Texas State's Valerie Hancock was named Southland Conference Female Outdoor Outstanding Field Performer and Asiya Iskakova was named the Female Newcomer of the Year, announced by the league office today. The duo brought home a combined three gold medals from this past SLC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Both Hancock and Iskakova will be competing at the NCAA Regionals next weekend. Hancock won two individual crowns on day two of the Southland Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. She captured both the heptathlon and high jump at the championships. Hancock successfully defended her high jump crown as she is now a three-time SLC high jump champion after winning with a height of 1.75 meters (5-08.75). She also won the women's heptathlon with an overall point tally of 4,839. Hancock's score is a new school record, taking down the 19-year record of 4,791 held by Stephenie Scott. Asiya Isakakova tied for fourth in the high jump with a height of 1.70 meters (5-07). In the triple jump, Iskakova followed up her indoor title with another gold medal in the outdoor event. Her fifth attempt netted her the gold medal and a NCAA Regional Qualifying mark when she bounded 40-11.50 (12.48m). Iskakova also earned the SLC Indoor Female Newcomer of the Year accolade, giving her the sweep on the year.
