Litvinova Receives Southland Conference Honor
April 12, 2007 FRISCO - Texas State's Liudmila Litvinova along with Texas-Arlington's Coby Morrison have been selected as the Capital One Bank 2007 Southland Conference Indoor Track and Field Student-Athletes of the Year by the league's awards committee, Southland officials announced today. The student-athlete of the year is annually presented to the individual in each conference sport who achieves excellence in academics and athletics. Nominees shall have earned at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average to go along with superior athletics achievement. Litvinova, an accounting major with a 3.77 grade point average, won the 400-meter run at the 2007 SLC Indoor Championship with a time of 55.27. The Moscow, Russia, native was also a member of the 4x400 meter relay team which won back-to-back SLC indoor championships (2006-07). She scored in a total of four events as Texas State posted a second-place finish in 2007. Litvinova has won an individual SLC championship or been a part of a relay team which has won during either the indoor or outdoor season each of the past four years (seven total gold medals). Academic achievements for Litvinova include being a member of the Beta Sigma Gamma Honor Society for business students. She has been an annual Oak Farms Dairy Award winner during her career at Texas State, including a "Cream of the Crop" honoree in 2006 when she carried a 4.00 GPA. Morrison, a senior with a 3.24 GPA in mathematics, most recently earned a second-place finish in the 200-meter run at the SLC Indoor Championship. He has been an All-SLC performer five (indoor and outdoor championships combined) times during his career. Morrison, a Wichita Falls, Texas, product, has been named to the SLC's Commissioner's Honor Roll twice and been a UTA Scholar Athlete every semester. He was the 2003-04 recipient of the Freshman Honors award given by the UTA Division of Student Affairs. Included in Capital One's support of the Southland Conference Academic Awards Program is the F.L. McDonald Postgraduate Scholarship presented by Capital One, and the Capital One Southland Conference All-Academic Teams, the Capital One Scholar-Athlete Award and the Capital One Commissioner's Honor Roll.
