June 7, 2007
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - In his first-ever competition at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Texas State sophomore Robert Melin posted a 16th place finish in the discus late Wednesday. Melin had a throw of 53.95 meters on his first throw before a throw of 55.32 meters (181-06) which proved to be his mark for the event. Melin fouled on his third attempt and failed by just three feet from making the event's championship. Tonight Texas State senior Abby Ruston will compete in the women's shot put qualifying round. She is one of only six competitors in the 28-athlete field to have a qualifying mark of 17 meters or better this season. Ruston won the NCAA Midwest Regional with a throw of 17.23 meters (56-06.50). Qualifying for Saturday's championship gets underway at 7:15 p.m. Pacific Time. Academic Honors
Litvinova was named the Southland Conference's Indoor Track and Field Student-Athlete of the Year earlier this season. She qualified for the NCAA Mid West Regional in winning the 400 meters at the Southland Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship. She was also a member of Texas State's 4x400 meter relay team which won an SLC title and qualified for regionals.
