NORMAN, Okla. - With the first day of the 2009 NCAA Track and Field Midwest Regional under wraps, senior shot putter Kemuel Morales has earned a spot in the national championships.

Kemuel Morales qualified for the NCAA Track and Field Championships after hauling a season-best throw of 18.23 meters (59-09.75). His mark earned him a bronze medal in the event. Andy Ysebaert finished with a distance of 15.96 meters (52-04.50).

The 4x100 meter relay team of Aaron Jones, Kevin Aje, Brandon Thomas and Stephon Hargrove finished 12th in the event this afternoon with a time of 40.59. Jennifer Matthews tied for 15th place in the pole vault after a height of 3.66 meters (12-00).

In the women's discus Jiovanna Martinez finished in ninth place with a distance of 48.71 meters (159-10). Katie Hanie had a mark of 47.07 meters (154-05).

In Day two of the Mideast regional, Texas State will have athletes competing in the men's pole vault, men's triple jump, women's triple jump, women's high jump.

Automatic qualification into the National Championships will be declared to the top five declared finishers from each Regional individual event and the top three declared finishers from each regional relay event. The NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held from June 10-13 at John McDonnell Field in Fayetteville, Ark.
